I wanted to be a police officer when I was young. I wanted to be a famous singer when I was in elementary school. I wanted to be a mechanical engineer in middle school. I wanted to be a translator or diplomat in high school. I wanted to be a constitutional lawyer in university. I wanted to be a teacher and academic when I moved to Japan. I wanted to be a stenographer when finding work was too challenging. I wanted to be a freelance designer when leaving home was scary. I wanted to be a general manager when the medication helped a bit. I wanted to be a copywriter when I couldn't get out of bed again. I wanted to be a janitor when being around people frightened me. I wanted to be a software developer when I found my way in tech. I wanted to be a chartered accountant when I tired of start-up life. I wanted to be a realty office administrator when that idea flopped. These are the broken dreams that made me Aaron. I share with you in the hopes of showing each of these "failures" more gratitude as I continue to become whomever I'm destined to be this year. You see, dreams of ours today will need to be broken to make space for dreams of ours tomorrow. Don't give up. Not on me. And definitely not on you.
