Four Years Sober

July 14, 2026

Four years sober today.

It hasn't been easy. I've learned a lot along the way, but alcohol wasn't the real battle. The real battle was what alcohol kept me from. The hard, uncomfortable, beautiful work of learning to love myself. Deeper than I ever felt safe to go. Deeper than I believed I deserved. Deeper than I could have imagined in my younger and more turbulent years.

Taking full ownership of my emotional and spiritual landscape has been tricky to say the least. The burden turned out to be the doorway though, back into the parts of myself I had been running from all along.

As the journey has gotten easier, I've become ever grateful. Grateful for the people, communities, and systems that help us step out of destructive cycles. Those who reserve judgment and offer grace matter tremendously. They ensure there is support for us to take the steps towards becoming who we're meant to be.

You see, recovery is not just about giving something up. It's about gaining ourselves back, one piece at a time. To those who've shared their journeys with me along the way walking the path, much love your way.
